Cover on the tank

What are the advantages of having a tank cover vs. not having one? I know that there is less evaporation with the cover, but are there any major disadvantages to having a cover. I was thinking that there may be less oxygen exchange. Am I correct? Please give me some opinions on whether or not to cover the tank. It would be a clear glass cover. Thanks.

A cover of some sort may be in order if you have any jumpers in the tank, eggcrate may work as a substitute. a cover blocks out quite a bit of light though even if you keep things really clean.

A cover keeps things like metal halides from making the room glow like the sun too.

Perhaps I misunderstood your question...by "cover" do you mean the glass parts that cover the tank, or the wooden canopy that would sit over everything?
