Yes.
Some Mantis can jump a few inches out of the water.

Yes, sort of. I have a Sunlight supply T-5 over one mantis tank and a glass top over the other.

my peacock always seems interested in swimming out of the water, so i put one of those metal screen top (for amphibian tanks) on top of it...but it was startin to rust. guess i should get those glass tops.

i was just using a piece of egg crate, but i took it off because she never goes near the surface.

All of my mantis are in Eclipse tanks, with well-fitted covers currently (Well, one P. cilata is in a Nanocube 12, but the lid is good anyways).

The only one that seems to be interested in exploring 'escape' is my mutant G. platysoma, who is also my most visable and entertaining explorer (Despite their rep for being reclusive).

I have eggcrate but I have never seen my graphurus swim.

i have a glass top over mine, my smithii loves to swim up the glass and then float down

I don't use a cover at the moment. Matilda sticks to the bottom (doesn't even go 1/2 way up in the water column)
