CowFish Died- Does EVERYTHING in the Tank have to GO?

The other night, I moved my fish from the main tank to a smaller tank when my light system fried. It smelled something terrible- so I was concerned that this may have leached into the water. Well the little shaver did not look too swift- so I popped him into a tank all by himself. This morning- he was no more :sad2:
So I don't know if I have to scrub down all that he had come in contact with or not? ( Luckily he was in a 5 gal tank. ) There is live sand in this tank - What can be done with it?

Sorry to hear about the loss. I had a friend that lost a cowfish and nothing happaned to its other tankmates. Keep a close eye on things as i have heard some bad stories.
