Cowfish issues

[Absint Reefer]

I picked up a cowfish that was obviously in declining health yesterday. His horns are what appears to be eroding and you can see where all the tissue is gone near the top and just the bone shows.
He is still eating very well and is very active.
I'm just not sure what the problem is as of right now I'm treating it as a bacterial infection and feeding a supplemented diet
Anyone have any ideas what this could be?

without a picture i cant say but i have a cowfish who is very healthy but constantly erodes his from horns by swimming up against the glass waiting for food , so i assume this may be the same problem with yours?

That comes from the exporter corking the horns so they wouldn't puncture the bag Treat in a QT with nitrofuran or Maracyn 2 and there is a chance of stopping the infection.

To add the obvious, they are toxic when they are stressed so don't put him in with anything else.

I've owned and cared for many cowfish and have never had them release their toxin,
but he seems to be doing fine I'm afraid to add anytype of medication so I've added a few cleaner shrimp and good diet I guess is all I can do.
