I have one on my 29G. I bought it slightly used. It works pretty well once it's broken in. You will experience microbubbles for a bit but after a week or so, it's gone. It's a bit loud though. I did the silencer mode w/ a prescription pill bottle and it quiets down extremely while keeping the airline fully open for best skimmate. Just google the silencer mode. You'll find it. For reef tanks, take the bio bale out (2R doesn't come w/ it) and leave it empty. You can use the empty compartment as sort of a sump to run gfo, carbon, etc. Just make sure you don't block the overflow.
I really like the bakpak for tanks that do not have a sump. It is great to be able to place your heater in there or hang a bag of carbon. You can also add the preskimmer which is a pretty nice option for taking water from the surface.
The main down side for me is noise. Definitely look into the mod suggested in the previous post.

Unless you clean it often, like a couple times a week, it will just end up being a nitrate trap. Best use your live rock to do the biological filtration. The biobale was really for the fish only tanks, not FOWLR or Reef tanks. For free or cheap, you can't go wrong w/ this one.

Used one for quite a few years on a 55G..... Now have it on a friends 55G. Not a bad skimmer for a hang on!
