Crab ID (anyone want him?)

Hello,
I ordered some live rock from TBS (stuff is amazing!) and I caught this little hairy crab. Is it a gorilla crab? I caught him and put him in tupperware since if I'm correct, he is NOT reef safe. He's tiny and pretty cool looking. If he is not reef safe but someone wants him for some other tank/purpose, you are welcome to have it. The pictures are the best I can do with my camera (sorry)

Hey that guy looks cool. If you don't want him, i would like to put him/her in my nano tank. Let me know and I can come by tomorrow.

I like him. I have a couple of true crabs in my tank and I really like them. I've never had any trouble with them eating the corals. I have a large black one that just picks the rock clean for me.

That looks similar to the gorilla crab I recently got (here's the thread). Mine is in my sump. It hides most of the time, but once in awhile it comes out and makes its rounds of the tank. It's a lot of fun to watch her walking around with a piece of shrimp (from Fry's) in her claw. The woman I got her from said she got it in some live rock and didn't realize it until it was already in her display. She mentioned that she lost a few shrimp in the tank and thought it was from the crab. It's always hard to tell who the culprit is though.

Definitely a fun critter to watch!

I had one hitchhike in my tank on a live rock (had never seen it before until...). It tried to grab my blue-legged hermit one morning when I just happened to be refreshing my coffee. Thank goodness I walked by when I did because my beautiful blue-banded was going to be breakfast. I took the live rock back to the LFS later that day and, sure enough, they confirmed it was a gorilla crab-- highly predatory. I don't have a sump so they kept it. I heard later that they fed it to the trigger fish (the boys who run the store enjoyed that immensely from what I could tell!). Didn't break my heart honestly, although I realize with live rock we get the good with the bad. Just my two-cents here, but I'd move it to the sump if you have one or give it to someone who does.

Well I was going to give him to rromero at the meeting this saturday but he died today! Any more that I find I'll remove.

I was looking forward to having the monster in my fuge but that's how things sometimes happens. Yes, if you find anymore, I will gladly take it. Hope to meet you on Saturday for the frag swap.
