Looks like a mithrax crab. Depending on how you look at crabs as a whole, this will determine whether or not where you let it live.
Personally, I really like them and think they have great personality and make a great asset to a display. Like watching it run all over the tank when you feed trying to find the food or grabbing food from a stick.

Then there are some who think all crabs are of the devil and think they are killers to all things.. They aren't smart enogh or fast enough in my opinion to grab a fish, even a sleeping one, as long as the fish isn't sick.
They are often accused of killing things because they are caught eating a fish, but usually you can't definitively prove that the crab killed it.

I believe in the innocent until proven guilty crab concept and so far none of mine have been guilty.

+1 for letting him live. You can put him in sump if you don't want in display or call LFS they may make a home for him.

Better pic? Are the legs hairy? Mithrax usually are hairy looking and in my experience are green (emerald), black, or red (I have a pink/purple one).

Sorry, never got a better shot, he was so tiny...

I didn't want to chance it and banashed him to the sump. Maybe I can get a better look at him once he grows up a bit.

Thanks everyone!

If you can get a good look at the claws and legs and shell shape/color, always safe to quarantine them until sure!
