crab ID, white claws?

He is grayish white colored, hairy.. and his claws are gray/brown at the base, but are white on the tips..

I think he is bad news though because I think he is stalking whatever is in that hole.. likely another crab...

it's claws just aren't matching up with anything I'm seeing.. because the stone crab have large arms leading to the claws, this guy doesn't..

Can you get a better photograph of the thing in the hole?

I never saw the thing in the hole come out. I can't find either of them now. I do see another crab, red, picking at the rock. Thinking it's a mithrax. it has black and white striped legs though. picking at the rocks makes me think it's alright atleast. (Although not necessarily coral safe).

A general rule of thumb I see a lot of people using is if the crab's claws are tipped with black, that means bad. If they're tipped with white, that means generally good. Naturally we cannot see either of these crab's claws perfectly, and although I want to label it as teddy bear crab due to the fur, it's coloration from what I can tell is not that of a teddy. I can't figure out if it's xanthid or mithrax as the claws appear white but the rest of the body appear xanthid. A clearer image if possible would clear this confusion up. If we take your word on the claws.. it's a mithrax which is not particularly worse than normal emeralds found in the hobby.

haha, yeah, that pic actually turned out better than I can see with my eyes.. (I have good vision). pretty much what you see is what you get.. without a really good camera that can pick up even more than you'd be able to see.

I should mention this rock came from tampa bay saltwater.. so teddy bear would be unlikely Teddy bear crabs look awesome though. wielding weapons(shields) is always cool. I found 2 gorilla crabs today.. so time to take care of that... I have either a pistol shrimp or mantis as well (possibly 2 based on where the sounds are coming from).. 3 porcelain crabs which I love watching. 2 red crabs with black/white striped legs (possibly mithrax) I tried feeding mysis, only things that came out were the gorillas. Lots of neat stuff, really enjoy finding it all.
