I have only a pic of its claw....I have a feeling this is a bad one. the claw is a recent shedding so it is bigger yet. this claw is 7/8 of an inch long total.

maybe some form of mud crab. Xanthidae family. Liomera sp. ? what does it look like. build, colour pattern. if it is a mud crab you may want to remove it asap.

I have not seen it...I thought several months ago I saw a small crab, similar to an emerald, except black. It was quick and have not seen it since. However, today I found 2 of these and several legs almost 2 inches long that had been shed. All I have to go on is the claw.

Looks to be a cling crab, which I have found to be harmless within my tank, the spoon shaped tips of the claws are used to scrape rock for algae and other small sessile life off of the rock, harmless to corals and larger inverts. Others may have had other experiences with this type of crab though.

if the tips of the pinchers are flat then it would usually be reefsafe. although i had a crab that looks the same as the green mithrax but it is orange. everything was fine till over a couple of nights almost completely stripped a gorgonian. it has mostly grown back now. sometimes you are lucky and sometimes they want to change diets.

I feed various shrimp to my anenomes, and brains....no crab
he is vary illusive....
****es me off!!!!!!!!!!
