Okay..so this is the second crab I have found just like this. After finding it, I also found another one. I thought it may be an emerald, but it seems to have too big of claws. Also, most of the emeralds I have seen are green, not a reddish color.

how did u manage to catch that? i think i have 1 in my tank thats about 3 inches. i dont know what kind of crab it is though

I started by being very careful w/ my feeding, made sure that all the food was only going to the fish, none was being carried away by the current. Then, placed some shrimp in a glass near a LR edge in my tank. It was hungry and fell in. Since it was glass, it couldn't get a grip on the surface and got stuck.

hmm, interesting... i woulda said gorrila crab at first glance, but then i saw the claws and how the tips are flat and not pointed. i would say not reef safe but also not gonna kill fish and stuff.

too bad your so far away i woulda taken him off your hands for my invert tank. i finally got tired of feeding my hitch hiking crabs and such to my mantis so i finally made a tank for nothing but hitch hikers!

im not that lucky lol, my peppermints fish the food outta anything!so everything has to have a lid of sorts. i think mine is to smart for that. but i did notice that his claws are flat at the tips. does that mean hell leave the fish alone but not the coral?

the flat claws would lead me to believe that he would act more like a mithrax crab. so i think your fish and live stock are safe. im not sure about the corals though. i wish i could tell you more on that one. the only thing i have in my hitchhiker tank is some small anemones and some mushrooms, they leave them alone though.
