Reef'R
OK so I just found a crab that I have never seen before. I found him in a rock in my sump when i was doing my water change. Is he reef safe?, will he get along with my emerald that is twice his size?. Kind of looks like an emerald but its all red.

Thanks.

Looks like a deer tick to me!

I'd isolate that little bugger, it appears to have one claw bigger than the other, possibly a fiddler crab. They grow too big and do damage so you won't want him in your tank if you have corals. If you have a sump that you can put him in, maybe in one of those fish breeder cages, you can keep him until you find out what he is for sure.

yeah , hes out of the sump for now too. I got him in a smaller tank by himself until I find out what it is.

It could be a red mithrax crab. They are like emerald crabs (which are called emerald mithrax crabs)

It's hard to tell from the pic but if you search the photo gallery on RC or google for red mithrax crab you might see a similar pic.

thanks aquaman67, i just found a crab that looks just like it on about.com. They call it a "Red Liomera Crab" (Liomera rubra). Is this crab reefsafe??
