Crab reproduction

Hi, I have been finding a few large crabs throughout my system. It a selection of satellite tanks connected together and I have now found 4 30-50mm Actaeodes tomentosus (sometimes called mud crabs). I know the one in the main display has been there for a couple of years and hasn't caused any problems to my knowledge. I recently saw that it had gotten big and decided to relocate it to a large refugium. Since them I have found two smaller ones in other tanks connected to the display and just a few minutes ago not another similar sized to the big fella. They are all the same species which is a long winded way of coming to my question.

Is it likely that they were all hitchhikers and its just a coincidence? or is it possible for crabs to survive to settle in aquaria? I don't run a skimmer but have heavy flow with powerheads so would expect them to go through them. I would have thought they have a planktonic stage of a couple of weeks minimum? Would appreciate your thoughts.

TIA

I don't think they'll breed... most crabs have a planktonic stage, and I doubt they would survive.
They could have gotten in as sorta-planktonic ones? I've caught tiny baby crabs that swim a lot but can crawl around if the water is moving too much.
