hey everyone my 240gallon CLEAR FOR LIFE cracked in 7 differnt places. all small streess cracks. I dont mine buying a new tank especially if it was my fault just princapal.
I bought them for the warranty they offer. the tank is 3 years old

first they ask what i hit it with?? i was like huh..? are you serious.?? If i hit it with something i wouldnt be calling you guys.

then they said something hit it. I told them no the cracks are from the inside out. then they told me on the rocks in your tank hit them. i was like your kidding me right .? my tank is bare only sand.

Then the guy sayd you must have accidently hit i with your hand or something. I was like seriously 1/2 acylic you have to hit the darn thing very very hard and hit it with blunt force to make a crack like that. and in that case you will see markings of impact. This is just nice clean cracks.

then i told him there was 7 of them all in different areas of the tank.

after all this and emails and phone conversations Clearforlife says oh we dont waranty the acylic because we dont make it. We only warranty workmanship.
If you want it warrantied we have to cut it out and send it to the labatory to have them x ray and inspect it to see what it was.

So we cut the tank up and if they say it was my fault im **** out of luck?? the guy at clear for life say pretty much.

The truth is we all live in a 3D MATERIAL WORLD! And when even the most FOR SURE TIME TESTED things break or go bad, the MAJORITY will blame the individual. Without realizing bad SH.T happens all the time in various unexplainable fashions. Sorry brother!

That's BS Jocool. Yeah, sh*t happens....that's a given. But if I just dumped a boat load of money into a 240 gallon tank and started noticing stress cracks, I'd be furious! I would hold them to their warranty. And if they don't honor it, then go on a rampage discrediting their company.

One thing I didn't see was the age of the tank. With only sand in it, it's gotta be relatively new, correct?

That is bad acrylic. I would contact Acrylics in the DIY forum and get his take. I would NOT let this drop with the manufacturer. I would take it to the BBB, the state attorney general and whoever else will listen. I would have a lawyer look over the warranty and determine of you can shove it up their noses...

the tank is over 3 years old but its lifetime warranty.?

I dont want to take it to that extent. All i really want is for the tank to get fixed or replace it. I dont want anything more. :(

just a lil stressed out. I posted in other forums and everyone says its not my fault Look at the pics.. clean cracks no signs of impact or markings. just good clean fractures:mad:

You are going ot hav to take it that far, as they are not going to help you unless forced. Be carefull trying to discredit them, they can actually sue you! Just go after them to get the tank replaced.

That stinks. Good luck getting satisfaction from the manufacturer. Hope they do the right thing.

Don't worry about discrediting them if it's the truth, and it seems like it is. They can't say we stand behind this 100%, and then back away from it. Did they provide you with an actual warranty, or just the blurb that you quoted? There are many ways to skin this cat....

Ask for them to replace it, then take them to court. I am not sue happy but in this circumstance if they say they warranty the product for life, stand behind it 100%, etc. They need to honor the promise (warranty) that they have on their website. Make sure you print that information off of their website (if that is where you got it) so that way you have it if they update the website later on.

BBB, only if they are complete idiots would they try to claim that the cracks must leak before they will repair it. That would be gross negligence on their part, I would think, and could set them up for all sorts of damages (I'll ask the better half tonight, she's an attorney though not in product liability).

Anyway, point ClearForLife to this thread. I can honestly say they have lost a sale to me now. I was considering a CFL 125g, but there is a SeaClear for the same price a bit farther away. I expect my next tank to last FAR longer than 3 years.

I would send them a certified letter with pictures of the various cracks and see what they do. If they have half a brain they know that is a prelude to a lawsuit and will make it right.

I can't believe they would use 1/2" acrylic in the first place. It should be at LEAST 5/8" or 3/4" preferrably. You could get away with 1/2" glass but not acrylic. That's my take.

thats a nightmare man, take them to court, you will win because they there are so many of them, spread out. Some sort of stress crack

i dont think the ywant to do that now. they have been calling me to try to have me bring the tank now. I had to use public access/help to reslove this. If i didnt post on the forums i would have never gotten a phone call back

:x So they called me and i took the day off today. woke up in the morning around 9am. picked up a buddy and headed down to clear for life. what was suppose to be 45min drive took 2 1/2 hours. Thank you LA 405 fwy traffic

Finally got there. A gentlemen comes out. Alan the person i talk to on the phone happens to be the one. Talking to some fish people i heard he was the owner. He sees me pull up and sees my tank. Looks at it and must have been amazed. all the cracks are near the top. he felt it and with suprise it had no marking or point of impact. he looked at it for a while and i personally made him touch every crack. Smooth like a babys butt. He says "THERE IS NO WARRANTY ON THE QUAILTY, WE DONT MAKE THE AYCRLIC, WE ONLY WARRANTY OUR WORK" BUT WE WILL CUT THE SHEET OUT AND GET IT TESTED FOR FREE.....***.

He says look at our warranty on our website , it does not cover material or quaitly of the prouduct it covers the workmanship agasint leaking

i kinda aruged with him becasue he was trying to make up excuse after excuse. What could have happened too it. im like seirously you think i m gonna go thru all this trouble.

He tells me its not the tank because there are cracks in different sheets.
He tells me this tank cant be fixed. the long side is cracked.
he also tells me the tank looks old and it must have cracked from age, *** if its warrantied for life what does it matter ???
then he tells me it must be from chemical reaction. i was like serioulsy from the inside..??
then he tells me the acrylic cant withstand heat..?? how hot can a tank with 240gallons get in LA
then he says it could be from the sun ... shinning in the house. the tank is in a corner spot where no sunlight comes in.

Alan says we will cut the tank for free and send it off the the MFG or when the rep comes down we will show them.

what a waste of a day

im sure this might be rare and one in a million but i think i was the million.
IM SO FREAKING ****ED OFFFFF :x

Completely unacceptable in my opinion.

Any company worth their name will stand befind their product. No if and or butts.

And any company that will go thru that much trouble to come up with excuse after excuse obviously cares more about the bottom line then they do satisfied customers.

Too many others tank manufacturers out there to waste my time and money on someone who could care less if they leave their customers high and dry.

Unfortunately for you though, you're the one getting the shaft.

Brett

You know what, they sold you the tank. If something was wrong with the quality of the materials, it would seem to be their bad. There are all kinds of warranties (both express and implied). Look at it this way: GM doesn't make all (or even most) of the parts that the use to build a car, but they have to honor their warranty because they sold you the car. Your guy is clueless; he really is. It's the kind of person that you don't mind seeing smacked around in court. If they used bad materials, it's a cost of doing business - their cost.

You are so right, what a low life trying to blame the acrylic company, that is what they get for trying to cut corners and using low quality products.

That's like if the leather in my car were to crack and i contact Ford, and they tell me, well i didn't make the leather the cows did, let me contact the farmer that sold me the cow. obviously I'm joking but you get the point it's a lame excuse. You can tell that this thread is going to get big and it will cost them more to not fix it, as i promise you that every person that reads this will think twice before doing business with them.
