Hi Folks,
One of my favorite corals is unhappy; which makes me a little unhappy as well.
Anyway this is normally what it looks like...
And this is it today. I noticed it closing up for the past few days; but it seems to be splitting on the larger head and I thought maybe that was why it was closed.
Here you can see where it split. It now has two mouths on the bigger head and seems to be pinching off.
Before anyone asks.
125 gallon reef
79F
1.025
ph - 8.2
calc - 400
alk - 3.5 meq/l
ammonia - 0
nitrite- 0
nitrate - 0~5 (can't tell due to crap color match test kit.. not quite 0 but not yet 5)
Tank is home to 10 or so corals (all others doing well) a pair of clowns and some snails. Tank has been running since Oct.
Is there anything I can do for it??? Is it normal for this to happen or is it really ticked off? A friend of mine keeps telling me to give it an iodine dip but I don't want do that unless I know that is the route I should go. I don't like disturbing my corals for naught.
I did notice that there is a bunch of little hairs on the base of the coral where the skeleton meets the flesh. I thought spinoid worms, but they don't seem to have a ... body.. I don't know where they are coming from. However they are definitely intelligence of some sort as when i was feeding last night they were swooping out trying to get itty bitty pieces. The hairs look like spinoid worm hairs, about the same size as well.
