Well, like the title says, I knew that there were some of those tiny six legged stars that wouldn't touch your zoas, but recently I just found that the species I have LOVE my zoas. I had a really healthy spread growing then POW found two of those stars on two colonies of zoas and they were sucking the very life out of them. Looks like I'm on the hunt! Any I find I just cut into small pieces in the tank. That should get em.... Just kidding. I actually remove them and let them dry up. It's just discouraging that they can affect the zoas like that.

For months I wondered why my zoas were being eaten. Info on asterina stars eating zoas seems to go both ways so I was confused. When I could not find the source openly I inspected the zoas at different points daily especially at night and found them covered in asterina stars. I quickly went out and got a Harlequin shrimp and two weeks later my zoas have already greatly improved. That said they were in my tank in smaller numbers not doing anything or it just wasnt enough to notice. Once the population boomed I cut back feeding and got a harley shrimp and couldnt be happier. I will rehome if needed later but he still has alot of work to do. Good luck

i had a bunch of asterinas in my tank too however they werent eating any of my zoas. i got a harlequin about 2 months ago and i havent seen an asterina in the last months. so far since the population went down i fed her 1 chocolate chip starfish when she seemed to be roaming around the tank a lot more. took 3 days to eat the whole thing and hid for the next 4 days. now she's roaming again. harlequins are a great investment to get rid of asterinas and other pest starfish imo
