Crap, my tank's center brace is gone...

Socalcreations says to do this in their warranty page. I believe it's to even out the weight of the tank throughout the entire top of the stand.

That's weird, TruVu never asked to do this for their acrylic tanks  . Although maybe it is because the tank doesn't have a center brace. I think other people were using something else besides styrofoam for this though--neoprene or something.

They may not say it in their warrenty page, but I can assure you they'd tell you in person that's the best way ;) I've never put a acrylic tank down with out something below it, and when I was in retail, all my customers got the same speech about it. It's not something "odd" or "unusual" they're asking, in fact, it's a very common thing.

i know home depot sells REALLY thick insulator styrafoam, but I think it's way too thick and overkill =( I was wondering if anybody else knew where else too?

Also I'm having problems with my schedule 80 bulkheads. My sched40 pvc really doesn't fit snug in them. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get leaks / microbubbles from this fact.

Anybody use sched 80 bulkheads?

HomeDepot sells 1/2" and some thinner ones as well IIRC. I know they have the 1/2" though, I did Cortez Marine's systems on 15 sheets of it :)

ok, i'll have to check again, thanks for looking out!

also any idea why my sched 40 pipe won't fit snug in a sched 80 bulkhead? maybe the slight variance is throwing it off =(

There should be zero variance between sched 80 and 40. The sizes should always be the same. I have no clue why yours doesn't work, sorry.

I think it's the bulkhead problem. I bought 1" sch 40 bulkhead and I couldn't stick 1" pipe in there  . Sander would really well on PVC pipe :D .. Your case is a different story. Will a lot of glues work??

i got my sched 80 bulkheads from savko, and my piping from aquaticeco (black pvc).

I'll try using the home depot white pvc and even my black spaflex =/

Make sure the black pipe isn't ABS. Some dummy might have give you the wrong stuff.

If anyone local wants some foam, I just got a new bath tub that was wrapped in a nice foam. Just put it under one of my tanks. I am going to throw it out as I have tons. Free for the takers.

Pooling up glue is VERY bad thing to do. It leads to weaker joints, and leaky joints. Not to mention, it's ugly as all get out

i'll try different kind of 1.5", and then see if I can get fittings that'll eventually allow me to snugly fit these bastards in.

anywhere else that sells 1.5" bulkheads other than savko? PremiumAquatics?

Custom Aquatics

I get most mine thru them :)

I have some blk schd40's I may be able to part with. I'll have to dig for them tomorrow though.

lol nice rufio =) yeah it was almost 1.25" acrylic too. The builders are known for their redundancies. It just makes you feel safer, and the quality is just there.

I doubt I'll get any noticible bowing even going totally braceless. Once this TANK is full of water, I'l post pix again and we'll check it out ;)
