Crazy find!

So we were out doing some christmas shopping today. The girls went one way, and my brother in law and I went to Scheels (sports outfitter/hunting/fishing). The girls of course went shopping crazy and were running around for 4-5 hours so we went across the street to a Petco. Not all Petco's have a saltwater section, but this one did. It didn't have much, actually a few of the tanks were completely empty. A few maroon clowns, ocellaris clowns, niger triggers, dogface puffer, no damsels (besides the clowns), no cardinalfish, no gobies... Pretty much what you'd expect from a Petco saltwater section. But one of the tanks on the bottom row had some live rock. Low and behold one of the pieces of live rock was covered in zoanthid polyps. And when I say covered, I mean polyp city. This thing had to have 4-5 Hundred polyps... 4-5 different types of zoas as well. I couldn't believe my eyes. The polyps looked like crap under the incandescent?! lighting which is why I'm sure it still sat there. I knew it was a gold mine though.

Of course, I came home with it.... unfortunately as a gift for my brother. It's in his tank now and the polyps look great. The majority are Orange with purple centers (very similar to my orange colony) and Green (Radioactive Dragon eyes). But some are Green with orange centers (Miami hurricanes) and a handful are Green with yellow speckles - a very unique pattern that I've never seen myself. All in all I bet this chunk of live rock and zoas would cost over 100 bucks on Liveaquaria or DiversDen... 21.07$

Miracles do happen. :D

Merry christmas!!!!!

I'll work on a pic but I can't promise anything. My brother still lives at home (rolls eyes) and my parents still have dial up (double rolls eyes).

I should have taken a quick shot of it on my phone. At the very least I'll get a picture of it when I go home for christmas but that won't be for a few weeks. Sorry about the teaser guys.

Keep your eyes open though! You never know what you'll find!

Alright guys. This is a really poor picture but its all we got for now. I'll snap a better one with the SLR when I get back home around christmas.

I didn't think it would be THAT good!!!
You did very, very well!
Very nice of you to give to your brother for Christmas!! :love1:
You can take better picture than that, I know...
I'll check the thread after Christmas for the other shots...

Grandis.

Yeah, a few years ago I bought an 8" powder blue tang for $49. I couldn't believe it. I don't see too many Petco's with Saltwater livestock anymore.
