crazy idea

would it be possible to put two tanks side by side and some how plumb them together with a big piece of pvc pipe of something so that the fish could swim back and forth between the tanks, no pumps or anything just a decent size pvp pipe or somehting between the side panes of glass, so they can go back and forth from tank to tank. i think it would be cool and you would have 1 tank but they would still be seperate in a way plus it would give you more spaces for fish to feel secure if they didnt like the tank that some of the other fish are in the could go to the other easily..

am i crazy or is this stupid? and has it been done b4?

how would acrylic be any different? i would think that as long as it was water tight and you didnt try to move either tanks (might break the glass since their connected) you should be fine. or were you trying to go another route with the bulkhead issue?

When acrylic is "glued" together it makes a stronger bond than just any part of the sheet.

You would virtually never have to worry about the acrylic leaking or coming apart.

The bulkheads will fail over time.
I would much rather make a giant U tube and put a vacuum pump on it. That way if it does fail you only have water in your sump not your floor.

ok i understood everything you said except the u tube and vaccuum pump... could you explain this a little more? water in sump is better then water in floor. thanks.

nvm..... i tried something but it didnt work. that is neat but i still am not sure how it actually works like it does.

Instead of doing the upside down tank in one tank, do it to 2 tanks connected together with a giant U shaped tube with it being under a vacuum.

Steve you gave me the idea for the tank that I have now and you just gave me a new idea for a new tank. It is like the link you posted but with a twist. I am going to start cutting the acrylic for it this weekend.
Now I need to find a source for some of those Japanese HID spotlights.
