Creating a 10g reef or fowlr

Currently I have a 55gal FOWLR tank but I have a freshwater tank which is a 10g hex tank.

The reason I first got this tank was to make a little marine tank ( noone at the LFS told me it wasnt easy but anyway )

Would I be able to make a little FOWLR tank out of it or maybe a seahorse tank?

What would I need to do due to water quality in such a small tank changing rapidly..

How much would this cost etc?

Do I need a sump? Or just the appropriate amount of live rock?

I am not sure if I am going to do it but information would be great.

Thanks :)

seahorses are difficult, but you could do it.

all i think you would need is a little hob aquaclear with some cheato in it, and of course live rock in the tank.

or you could plumb up a little sump, and it would be nice, i dont think its necessary.

either way KEEP UP ON WATER CHANGES cant stress that enough

as for keeping the levels constant, my tank ballances itself out remarkably well. i just have to watch the salinity really closely.

What fish would I be able to put in the tank ? ? ? If it was 10g with no sump just lr and the filter with the cheato

Yes it is definitely possible to turn a 10 gallon into a FOWLR tank. I don't think there are many species of Seahorses that would be comfortable in a 10g especially since they need a high tank. Dwarf Seahorses could work but they do require daily feedings of newly hatched brine shrimp.

Keep up on your water changes, don't overfeed, and top off reqularly. Oh and be sure to test Nitrate, Nitrite, Ammonia, pH, and measure SG often.

It depends on what equipment you use for the tank. You could probably set up your tank for $150-200.

For a tank of this size you don't need a sump. Around 1lb of live rock per gallon of water is a good amount to have.

As for stocking a 10 gallon I would personally only house a single small fish. A small Goby such as a Clown, Neon, Masked, Trimma, etc stay small and would be a great fish for a 10g.

I am setting up a 12 and asked this question on another site. Someone recommenend a Geometric Pygmy Hawk. I looked it up and they are SWEET. Should maybe look into one.

Ok well I have the 10g hex tank and a 30g aquaclear HOB on the tank right now...

How do you put cheato in it I have never hear dof it..

I guess when I ran the tank it only had 2lbs of live rock in it and made everything go crazy ( and 3 fish :-X )
