Creative with my crab

Finally baited the gorilla crab into a glass...thanks Howard for the tip! But he almost had the chance to climb out. Luckily, I was watching (sorry for the pun) and got the glass and crab, before he climbed back out. I setup my 38mm watch (dial is 38mm, overall diameter of case is 50mm) for size comparo. Just using my trusty ole Olympus 5060Z in super macro mode.

I was playing with the lighting and the F-stop. I couldn't decide and which ones to post, so I decided to post all three.

It's called a gorilla crab. It's known to be NOT reef safe. I completely concur with that assessment as I've seen him (verified his sex) grab soft sponges from my LiveRock and dine. Other things he does is grab at the bas of feather dusters and break them off the rock and snack.

I've seen him try an eat some of my snails, grabbing the snail from it's path, taking the snail into it's den, and trying to pick him out of the shell. But he was unsuccessful.

Looks like it Especially since I didn't flush him down the toilet. He's in the 'fuge now.

What do you keep the crab with? Those are really cool crabs but i hear they can cause some serious damage to a reef...

It took me a minute - lol - but I realized the watch was turned on its side in the final picture and not actually 10:25.

My fuge is very simple at the moment. It's a deep sand bed with nothing else in it.

Cool...Would hate to see a thread in the future about the crab destroying the reef!! Anyway just wanted to say i loved these pics so much that the second on is now my desktop background lol!
