Crevice Worms?

Hi,

We just put two pieces of live rock in our tank yesterday and have been having a blast watching all the life emerge from them.

Tonight mt girlfriend saw our copepods scuttling around in the shadows under one of our rocks.

everything must be getting over the shock of the move because life is really starting to show.

In particular we are wondering what kind of worms we have poking out of a particular crack.

I would love to post a picture but I don't have a camera and won't be getting one any time soon so I will be as descriptive as possible.

In one crack are sticking out 4 tentacles or so and there are similar cracks with the same type of tentacles nearby. The tents are about an inch long and they are banded with brown and cream colored stripes and have two rows of hairs running down opposite sides. they stick out parallel to the rock and sway back and forth and sometimes they curl or twist a bit but mostly they just wave back and forth.

the ends appear to taper off and I would not say that they had a mouth or any other structures at the end. I think that the tentacles and the hairs are used to trap food and pull it into the crevice.

The first time I saw exactly what you described in the first post, I was looking for Bristle worms. I got ready to yank that sucker out, and noticed there were 3 identical arms sticking out. It's a Brittle Star...congrats! PS - I've still never seen the whole thing, always an arm or 4 just sticking out of a crevice. He moves around the big rock from crevice to crevice, but always stays on the same rock.

We have confirmed 5 legs.

Mine seems to be happy where he is. He is our most beloved animal in the tank at this point. He has not moved although we see the arms stick waaaay out at night. I assume he is filtering food out of t he water column with his arms otherwise he would have moved by now looking for something to eat.
