Critique my current sump...

Hello everyone,

Here are a few pictures of my current sump. Overflow to tank is on the right side of the pics, Mag 12 to tank on the left. As you can see, there is no skimmer. I have finally received my ASM G4 plus skimmer and also have a new 40 breeder tank that I am going to use as my new sump 36L 18W 16H. Just by looking at what my setup is now and factoring in the skimmer and bigger tank, is their any changes anyone would think would make a positive impact?

The water level appears too high in that setup, if the power goes out does it flood out? Id suggest force feeding the fuge from a T in the return pump vice letting all the flow go through it, just personal preference though. The big fuge is a good plus in the current system. Other than that i think you are on a good track!

Does this look familiar at all? I have been building these things for about a year. The design is the same but the tank sizes have varied, from 20 to 55 gallon. The 55 gallon is under my 150 gallon tank.

I'm installing a 140 into my wall and am thinking about a DIY sump. Did you modify a standard 55gal tank? If so, do you know where I can find plans and instructions?

Thanks!!

cbeitel.... id just get a standard 55, and some abs plastic or some glass panes, and silicone them in. The picture above is a great way to start. I recommend baffles 1" apart maybe 1.5" for the bubble trap. Id make the fuge sections walls pretty high, and the skimmer/return about 1/2 way up the tank MAX. this will give u a nice void volume incase of a power outtage, etc.
