Critter-Safe Macros?

Ok - I have a 12 gal nano that I want to add some macroalgae to in order to add some color, variety, and nitrate removal. I tried caulerpa after my LFS said the critters in my tank would leave it alone. They didn't and it became a nice snack for them. Now I'm looking again.

Here's what I have:

tank: 12 gallon Eclipse Instant Ocean 12
filtration: 11 lbs live rock
substrate: appx 1/2 inch live sand
fish: 1 ocellarus clown, 1 striped damsel, 1 diadema pseudochromis
non-fish critters: 10 scarlet hermit crabs, 2 red crabs, 1 green emerald crab, 1 mexican turbo snail, 4 astrea snails

I want to add the macro to the main tank, not set up a refugium. Obviously caulerpa isn't the answer. Is there anything out there that will not become a snack for my critters?

I was looking at Maiden's Hair, Red Feather, Hailmeda, and Codium Taylori.

Thank you.

I would try the calcearous type macros, Halimeda, Mermaids fan, shaving brush. The maidens hair, red feather?( no idea what this is ), and codium while this calcearous, would be likely to get eaten.
