Crocea Clam Attacked by Cleaner Shrimp

I just bought my first Crocea clam. I put him in the tank, and within a minute my cleaner shrimp was on top of him and tearing at his flesh. Of course, I shooed the shrimp away, then I moved the clam to my other tank (which has no shrimp). I wasn't aware that the cleaner shrimp was a predator to clams, and I can't find anything on the internets about it. Has anyone heard of this before?

This may sound silly, but was the cleaner shrimp really hungry? I got a peppermint shrimp (we were very careful to ID it correctly before purchasing), that started eating my shrooms almost immediately after I put it in the tank. Needless to say, the shrimp was returned.

It may be that the clam is on its way out and the shrimp was doing his job a cleaning the dead tissue. Keep an eye on your clam.

they were just doing their job, cleaning away dead tissue and parasites...i doubt they were doing any harm to your clam
