Crocea clam damaged foot

My Crocea has been fully extending its mantle and has been looking good overall. I've had it for about 3 years. About 8 months ago it starting putting out a mucus around its base. This stopped and then started again a couple weeks ago. I took the Crocea out of my tank today to clean some bubble algae off its shell and it l noticed that it has extensive damage to its foot. Can someone give me an idea what is causing this and if the clam will likely die? I have two other clams in the tank that appear healthy but I haven't checked their feet yet.

i don't understand why it was not attached to a rock. had it been??? ive never had a crocea not grab within a few days. if yours had been at one time, i'd say that the foot shows symptoms of an infection.

I took a second look at the foot under water and it looks intact but like it might be infected like moliken said. When I bought the clam it was not attached. I had it on egg crate about 2 years ago and it attached and I gently removed it. After it was free, I examined the foot and could see no damage. I've had it on my sand bed ever since. I'm now realizing that it might be a good idea to provide it with a rock to attach too.
If the foot is infected, how should I proceed with treatment? I can easily set up a 20 gallon quarantine tank with adequate lighting if I need to dose the water with antibiotics. Should I give it iodine dips?

i don't know anything about antibiotic treatment options, but i'd think iodine would kill the clam. fatherree mentions metronizadole for bacteria and protozoan. qt only. there is an odd side effect of loss of color, which comes back within a week. may not do anything, as we're not sure what the prob actually is.
