crocea clams

i have a 135 gallon tank, with 2 250 watt MH lighting.....aprox. 250 pounds or so of LR, a 55 gallon refugium (its totally fileld with water.) a 20 gallon sump 3/5s filled, with a euroreef cs 8-3 RC skimmer......i do bi monthly water changes of 25 gallons, with sea chem reeef salt....i have a calcium reacter but not all the neccisary parts to set it up yet. oh and its been up around 5-6 months...all the rock is from an exsisting tank 2-3 years in age....i am getting 2 3-3.5 inch crocea clams tommorrow....i was wondering if they will be ok in my tank? will i haev to dos calcium and Mg until my reacter is set up?

It depends on what your tank is using now. I'd start checking alk, Ca, and mag every few days now and monitor them when you get the new clams in. Sometimes it'll take a bit before they settle in and start to grow also, so don't think you are safe after a few days. Just keep an eye on it and if you need to dose some 2 part or kalk until you get the reactor online. A couple of clams can use a good bit of minerals.

I'll agree to disagree. Here is why. You dial in a reactor for your current consumption. Sooner or later either growth or additions demand new dosing routines. If you aren't testing regularly, especially when you add a new inhabitant you set yourself up for failure.
