Crocea Not opening.

I posted this up in General discussion and was told to come here where the experts are.

This is the original post:

Have a 4" crocea that I have had about a month now. Started it out on the sand and then last week or so, I moved it up onto the rock. It sits about 12" below the halides in the middle of the tank. Was fine for about 5 days and then today and yesterday it has remained closed. About 3/4 inch of mantle is exposed through the top. Getting worried about it.

Any ideas?

There is a Hatian Anemone about 8 inches to the 5 o'clock position from it, a Devil's Hand Leather about 3 inches to the 6 o'clock position from it, and stonies around the other sides.

yes, it could be that something is picking at it, although im not sure why it would suddenly start if youve had it for a while. try this:
take a clear container like a tupperware container that is big enough to fit over the clam. put some holes in it sothat flow will get through. id make sure the container is clear too, and not clouded-white. place it over the clam so taht no fish or inverts could get at it. see if it opens up soon.
your temp is low and seems to change a lot, but if the clam didnt mind before, it probably wont mind too much sudenly now.
have you seen any hitchicker pest on it like small snails?

Never seen any of the shrimp on it.

It sits almost at the top of the rock work off to the side of the center. Receives some flow, but not to the point that the mantle blows in the flow.

I will try the container trick and see if it works.

Temp fluctutates alot, just don't have the cash for a chiller so its fans for me.

Have not noticed any hitchhikers at all. Will keep an eye on it.

Thank you everyone for your time, I really appreciate it.

The tank temp seems on the cold side, normal reef temps are closer to 82. SG is a little low as well. However I would suspect change in flow or to much move towards the lights to quick.

I run my SG at 1.026 and temp at 79 +/- .5. My want to bump up those levels and keep an eye out for "nippers". Be sure to look for the dreaded snails at the base of the clam.

Going to bump up the salinity a bit. Temp is going to be a bit more of a problem.

No snails at the base that I can see. No issues with nippers that I can see, have not tried the clear container trick yet.

Now the clam is opening up for about 4 hours or so during lights on, but about 3 hours before the lights go out, it closes over leaving about 3/4" of mantle exposed sticking out.

Question, how long can a clam survive it it does not open fully?
