ok got two crocea clams for about 5 months now they have been doing great, but recently (3 days ago) i notice one of my clams is acting weird. its not open up all the way, and seems like its folding on the inside instead of outside. The only thing i notice is that i start to double dose my B-ionic Calcium couple days ago. Dont know if that started the problem or not. But still with double dosing calcium, my CA level is still only 390. Alk is 8.5. In addition i do have a BTA beneath the two clams, dont know if thats the problem.

Clam is still repsonding to movement. The clam is place in the mid level of the tank.

My tank is a 25 gal with a 20 sump.

Should i move it back down the sand? Im thinking its either the BTA is stinging it or it has too much flow.

What do you guys think ? the green one is good, but the blue one is having some problem.

should i do a FW dip ... im afraid this would spread onto my other clam too.....argggggggg...... damn it.

you can dip it.. it wont hurt it.. the clam may not like its new spot.. after the dip put it back in its old spot and see how it does...

the pictures kind of look like it is flapping in the wind, how much flow is there directly on the clams? also you BTA looks really bleached, how old are your lights?

yeah i know my bta is bleach...i bought it when it was like that..(noobie mistake)...my lighgts is only 4 months old.

flow is relatively high on top where the clam is ..i just move it down the bottom..lets see how it does for the next couple of days. thanks

i disagree with gabe on the FW dip.
the FW dip will put tremendous stress on a already stressed clam. unless you are absolutely sure there are no parasites/protozoans/etc. bothering the clam i would avoid the dip. use it as a last resort.
check for fish nippers and sundial snails as well.

altezza,

The 2nd picture you posted looks like your green clam is showing slight symptoms of pinched mantle, also.

It's possible, that the protozoa that causes PM has been present for some time. Iron fuels this protozoa, which may explain why this event coincides with your recent double-dosing of B-Ionic part 2 (which contains iron).

If you find that this continues after the move, you really should do a 30 minute FW dip, ASAP. It's only slightly stressful for clams, and would only be fatal for a clam that's already 'out the door', which would be the case, if the pinched mantle is left untreated.

Good luck!

ahhhh i see, i guess i will see if the clams is doing better or not ...if not i will dip them both in SW. Thanks for the advice guys.

Just be sure is PM.

From what i see at the green clam...it looks ok...i dont know how that one got PM though...are you looking at the roundness of the mantle that got distorted?

PMD takes some time to kill the clam, you see your clams everyday for months now is the clam the blue one specially show any problems with his mantel before? we don't know you should know how the clams was looking and how is now is this just happen ? Do you put any thing else in the tank lately? tell as more.

i put some new zoos in the tank lately..i do notice ever since i double dose b-ionic, the blue clam start to act weird.

Well ever since i move the blue clam back in place with less flow. It seems to be happy. So i guess no FW dip for now.
