Crosshatch Triggers Courting??? Video

Hey everyone,

Just caught our 4" pair of Crosshatches dancing in the tank.

They would chase each other for a bit then get to each other and spiral in the tank up and down.

I caught the end of it on video and my wife got a better video of the "dance". Trying to get that up as well.

Is this a form of courtship, pairing etc... ?

Pretty sure they are asserting dominance. They look to be close to the same size?? I think the female will be trying to change to a male before long.

Yeah read something about blue throats doing similar thing when mating.

No marks or bites. Pretty similar sizes by about an inch.

Female is silver with red fins and yellow tail.

Male is golden with yellow fins and yellow tale. Hope he gets a red tail.

Don't want two males though lol

I hope I'm wrong and they are mating! Too many crosshatch end up not remaining pairs for whatever reason.

lol, they prob need like a min of 15,000+ gallons to get their groove on and need to be considerably large and mature enough fish...

Thanks guys :)

Do you think it's normally for small Crosshatches to engage in this behavior to establish a dominant fish?

No visible marks or bites, etc...

One fish is visibly darker with strong yellow fins, but a yellow tail.

The other is more silver with reddish fins and a yellow tail.

Female I think. Didn't see it today my wife did.

It's pretty rare though, haven't seen it since the last time.

Once again no nipped fins or anything. Hanging out together tonight like nothing happened...
