crushed coral rubble

My nitrates aren't going away, and aptaisia is overrunning my tank. When I got this tank it came with about 2 inches of crushed coral rubble.

would you say that is why the nitrates are high with 75 lbs of Lr, a 1.5 inch Royal Gramma and a 1" tomato clown?

At this point I am thinking of getting rid of it all and buying 20 lbs of the beautiful Hawaii LS that's black and white, for a 1" sand bed.

does how deep a sandbed is affect nitrates? if so how

The CC could be trapping a lot of stuff that is causing high nitrates. What level are your nitrates at??

Aiptasia dont need high nitrates to grow. They are not called the dandelions of the SW hobby for nothing. See the sticky in at the top of the forum about solutions to get rid of the dumb things.

I haven't tested it recently, I'm at school right now. but last time I was there it was consistently at 20-30 ppm, and aptasia all over the place it's makin' me mad.

with out regular water changes and some Kalk attacks on the Aiptasia, you'll have that. In all reality, if the aips aren't stinging corals, they are doing you a service by cleansing the water column.

I have a CC sand bed in my 58 --- no issue. But the key to a CC sand bed ( IMO ) is that you have to gravel vac it.
