I have a sand base bottom with crushed coral on top.some people told me to get rid of the crushed coral.is crushed coral a problem?i am looking for a skimmer now for a 55 gal tank if anyone knows of a good brand.
thanks
I am now using some the same way as you are. My flow is 50+ turnover rate for sps and my flow blows bald spots on my bottom. Not anymore though. There's nothing wrong with it. Some fragile sand sifting critters won't be good for it. Like gobies, cukes etc. None of which I have so no probs.
Crushed coral is fine if you keep it clean, and keep a small amount. I ran it for yrs, i did change over to Oolite, i just wanted a new look. My CC was turning black in some areas, but if you keep siphoning you should be good.
