I know that some crabs and shrimp can attack fish so could you just have an aquarium with only crabs and shrimp. I am curious about why you guys think about the idea.
Thanks for your input!

Why not?

Just limit the species of shrimp and crabs.. for example a coral banded shrimp might not get along with other shrimp, calico crabs may harm slower shrimp and crabs, etc.

A 125 gallon full of sexy shrimp.. I wouldn't mind that!

On the note of crabs and shrimp attacking fish.. eh.. emeralds won't hurt much other than what's slow and sick (dragonets, pipefish, nudibranch,). Some of the larger crabs can be nasty like arrows, sally lightfoots, and some are just bulldozers such as calico, large hermits, etc..

Shrimp on the other hand other than coral banded and mantis I don't see a threat to fish. Even pistol shrimp are relatively harmless more often than not.

I had a 30g set up as a crab tank (3-4 conchs too) that was very fun. Granted it was all wild collected, so a part of it was the enjoyment of having collected them all. I had porcelain crabs, gorilla crabs, Atlantic five line hermit crabs, and Blue crabs. Blue crabs were actually fun to have, and I would feed them frozen mosquito fish. Same with my larger hermits.

I just purchased some tampa bay saltwater LR, so it came with lots of hitchhikers. Mostly emerald crabs, a couple of porcelain and I have added hermits.

I think its very entertaining to watch. When I spot feed my rock flower nems, the crabs lift up their front claws begging for food. Hilarious.
