Cryptodendrum Adhaesivum (Pizza Anemone)

I saw one at one of my LFS and told my wife how cool I thought it was. I figured I'd wait and see if it would be there til the weekend, and maybe pick it up.
The next day she was a little later getting home, not that I was really worried, but was about to call her, and see where, or what she was up to, when I heard the front door.
Well, I was a little surprised when I didn't even get a chance to say hi, when she just handed me a bag and said, "here" with a smile! I was a little suprised at her just handing me the bag, and thought humm coral?? Nope! It was the pizza anemone!

Well, enough of my story.... I'm just a little curious about it.

I have the book "marine invertebrates" by Ronald Shimek. The anemone I have looks exactly like the one in the book on page 85. It appears to be very healthy, and found a home very quickly in a crevice in a large rock in my tank.

Anyway, I'm wondering has any1 had 1 long term as the book says they are "hard to keep"??

I've been searching for any, and all info I can find other than what the book says, as it gives conflicting info from what I've found so far. Again the book says "hard to keep" I found some info stating that this animal is easy to keep and only needs to be fed 1 or 2 times a month, and doesn't need much in the form of maintenance. I've tried to feed it a few times now and has yet to eat for me. I've found some info about what to feed them and already tried what they suppossedly eat.

Well, I'm not worried yet about it as again it appears to be very healthy, but I do hope to keep it as long as possible as this is one beautiful animal.

...Also I'm not very new to anemone care as I have another type of anemone now for well over a year, and again the book I have stated it too was hard to keep, and I feel it has been very easy thus far.

Can anyone give me any other info??

Thanks in advance for any info.....

i believe they have the same maintance as carpet anemones(haddoni sp.) give them light and clean water.

but i was feeding my haddoni 2 times a week.

youll have to try different foods to see what it likes

heres a list of typical foods
clams
squid(every anemone ive had couldnt resist this)
shrimp(cocktail, krill,mysis)
silverside(small piece so youll have to cutt it down)
and if all those fail try cyclopeeze.

how big is your new pizza anemone?

Pizza anemones have quite a potent sting...becareful...any careless fish may end up being stung but its tenteatcles...

Thanks for the info. I have tried as far as food goes silversides, cyclopeez, and shrimp.

I'd love to post pics, unfortunately can't figure out why our digi cam will not turn on, it has new batteries too.

.... maybe it needs to have a chat with a hammer, lol.

I'm planning on getting a pair of Clarkii's, I just gave one I had away cause he/ she was quite nasty, it bit me hard so I decided that was it lol.

... back to the digi cam I'm trying to figure out whats up with it, as soon as I figure it out I'll post some pics.

Those guys are cool. Good luck with it.

I wish my wife would bring me presents from the LFS. 8(

Ok, after I'm not sure how much time trying to figure out how to post pics, and wanting to rip my hair out.
I just couldn't figure it out, my wife did I'm not sure what, but posted a pic of my pizza anemone in my gallery..... WOHOO!

A first pic, and more to come now......

I am guessing that the pizza anemone is close to a carpet in that it can eat and kill fish. LA has a couple that I have been looking at, but couldn't find a lot of information on them

Nice looking pizza anemone. From what I've read they eat well and tend to acclimate to aquariums successfully much of the time.

ok here it goes lol....Click on your gallery and then click on the pic that you want. You will see a list of stuff starting with poster, then views etc until at the bottom of the list you see "Use this in img tag:" copy that url. Then go to your post and on the very left where it says logged in user then post suject etc. go down to where it says vB code. then just go to over to the right where there is a bunch of little buttons. Look for the one that says IMG and click it. Then just paste your link that you copied earlier and click ok. When you are typing up your post it will just say [IMG ] whateveryourlinkis [/IMG] but when you post your message it will show up as your picture.

Also go get a photobucket account(free, or at least I think it still is), it will allow you to upload bigger and better quality pics. on photobucket it actually has little things below each picture that list all the different codes. Just click on the IMG code(copies it automatically) and then just paste it in you text. I think you can also use html code but I just use IMG cause HTML is hella long.

Alright one last little thing lol. You can also find the url of the image(to use on here when you clickthe IMG button) by right clicking on it and going to properties or image properties(depending you what browser you use but they are the same thing) then in there you will see a url for that particular picture.

Hopefully that all makes sense and isn't too confusing lol.

Thank you for the instruction Maddman, I'm gonna have to give it a try.

Sorry, I didn't notice your question "Bencozzy" it's not too big yet, but I'd guess at it's biggest that I've seen it must have been around 8" or so.
I'd like it to move to a flatter area as I'd love to see it nice, flat, and open.

On another note I got it to eat tonight, so I guess it makes me feel a little better about it.

I'll keep all posted as to it's progress.
