CUC from bare bottom to sand bed

So I got my tank for free and it had crushed coral as the substrate in it. I took all that out around the same time there was an algae out break so I left it bare bottom and put a CUC in. They beat the algae. At one point I want to put a 3 inch sand bed in. Do I need to be worried about the CUC getting buried a live? Do I need to take them out? I have a few hermit crabs, some blue leg crabs the size of rice, two bigger green emerald crabs, and turbo snails to kind a get the idea.

Thanks

Just place whatever you find on the bottom on the rocks or in a small tupperware container until your done adding the sand. Piece of cake.

I would think you would have to take them to "higher ground". They might not be able to burrow back up through the sand, or they might be crushed.

Here's how: get a NEW auto oil funnel, and a length of PVC pip of fairly large gauge. Add your new sand in piles by pouring it into the funnel stuck into said pipe, which is resting near the bottom. Have a nice pile of sand. Let the cuc and the current spread it for you. They will. Add another pile. Nobody gets buried, and the sand gets where it needs to go. Repeat as needed. May take a few weeks. BE SURE YOUR SAND IS WASHED THOROUGHLY BEFORE USE!!!!
