CUC in the QT?

I've done some reading and it would seem that while unlikely it is possible for invertebrates to carry some nastiness like ich into your DT. So I would think the solution would be to put them in QT but how would you know if they were carrying something or not or would you just medicate the QT?

Well unless you have something for them to eat most likely I would think they will just die. But I went to google and typed in a search and found these topics just alone here on RC. There are tons of threads with the specific question on google. :D

I personally have never in all my 20+ years QT a CUC. Now I'm not saying you can't or shouldn't but I'm not even sure there is a medication that would be safe. I believe copper kills snails IIRC. So other than letting them sit for a period of time. I'm not sure what else you could do. I think the risk is minimal with a CUC. I dealt with Ick a couple times in my early years before I used QT methods and I can't say once it was because of a CUC or even a Coral. It was always fish and they were always Tangs. I'm not saying only Tangs carry ICK mostly as any fish can have it. I've just had bad luck early in my reefing career with Tangs and ICK.

Ich is a fish only parasite as far as I know. You can't use copper or any medication of the sort because it will kill all inverts in the tank.

Some folks will QT for the 72 day time period. IMO it is all about your risk tolerance. I personally feel the risk of ich coming in on CUC and corals are very low and as such I do not QT CUC. I will give corals a dip and and wait a few days to dip them again before putting them in the DT. The coral dips are not for fish related illness but for coral specific pests. Good luck just my 2 cents.
