Culturing Rotifers - Couple Questions After Reading the Articles

Hi All,
I am starting to raise my own live foods for our tanks. I would like to possibly try to raise clownfish at somepoint but figure I have to get phyto and rotifers down pat before I think about that.

So when starting a culture from live rots, what is the best system to reach the desired water volume without going to long without a water change. I know I read somewhere a guideline for doubling the water volume the first few days then harvesting 50% for a few days then doubling once more or something similar to this.

Here is what I am planning. Having three 5.5 gallon rotifer cultures. I have on order once they arrive 1 quart of live rotifers from Florida Aqua Farms. I would like to inoculate all three of these containers with rotifers from this one starter. What is the best way?

Also culturing media/food for rotifers. What is the best alternative? Seems like most people are using live phyto or IA. I also know Edgar (a local for me who has been helping me) used yeast then enriches them. I also have on order the roti-ruch diet from FAF. Any suggestions? I just started my nanno. cultures. I have Reed's Phyto-Feast here I could use if desired also have a yeast mixture that Edgar gave me.

Any suggestions or links to other threads are appreciated i have read to sticky at the top of this forum, wilkerson's clownfishes book and the article in Coral magazine recently.

Thanks!

Order the Plankton Culture Manual by: Frank Hoff & Terry Snell from FAF. Lots of info on every type of culture you would ever want to produce for your tank or breeding.

You have the best possible resource for info right in your own backyard... Edgar :D I should be so lucky. Just do whatever he tells you and you'll be fine ;)

Thanks!

Personally, I did not find the Coral mag aticle too helpful. Not aimed at the breeder, but the general aquarist.

Perhaps search for the Third Attempt thread of mine. I don't have the link on me. Many smart people helped me get started and the info is in there.

Good luck,
Kathy
