Cupramine and Cloudy water

Thanks for the input MrTusk. I think i'll increase the dose to full .5 tomorrow. No need to hurry the dose i guess. Maybe not following the direction to the T on the bottle but i think leaving them in there for 3 weeks is best anyways. Now my question is why is my water cloudy?

No idea. How bad is it? Can you still see the fish well enough to see spots, etc? I just shook a jar of my tap water with a few drops of Cupramine, its clear as can be.

it's still visible in the tank. I just can't see the other end of the tank if i looked through one side of it clearly.

I ordered some Crypto-pro but i won't use it on these 2 little guys. I will do so on my next specimen which is a powder blue tang. So far both of these two are taking the cupramine well and the seachem ammo badge shows no danger level. the only thing is the water is a bit cloudy i guess it comes with the territory. I did at a air stone with a bubbler in the tank to give more oxygen for the fishes. If my ammonia tests and badge shows it's save levels i will leave the tank be and not change the water yet. Does anyone know if running a skimmer on this system will have any effect on the cupramine treatment ?

I would be careful with the Seachem ammonia alert. I had it in my QT tank during treatment and it didn't change color when the NH4 levels were extremely high. It was a new alter tag too. There is no substitute to a proper test kit.

I am still not so sure about the bubbles. Some people say it's good, others say it increases CO2, I'm inclined not to use it anymore (I used to run all the time in my QT) just because I know it's not needed in the DT.

I assume a skimmer will remove some copper, but in the end, measuring the copper content with a good kit is what counts in my view. If you know what level you want to maintain and just keep that level by adjusting the amount of Curpramine depending on your PWC and measurements.

Good luck with the treatment. I don't envy you. It was 2 tough weeks.

cheers

I agree, I don't trust ammonia alerts either. Some folks swear by them. Air stones really don't add oxygen directly to any degree, they just agitate the surface so more air exchange takes place. I never use them. Any filter or PH can do that job, IMO. Why would you use a skimmer in QT? They don't do that much in such a short time and nitrate isn't an issue in QT anyway. Just something else to worry about, IMO.

Thanks for all the great comments. I will check on the parameters tonight and decide on the water change or not. i will get a seachem ammonia test kit to test the ammonia levels. Will do a double check with my tropic marin test kits.

IME, most ammonia tests are quite accurate, unless they're old. Nitrate tests on the other hand......

Please keep us posted. Whenever I run searches I always find someone had already asked my question but it's rare when a thread is continued and shows the results. For the benefit of all, we'd like to hear more about your progress. It will help others in the long run.

Just tested ammonia and it's within range of 0.2 - 0.5 can't tell. Will test with another kit tomorrow when i get to a LFS.

Water looks a lot clearer today. Checked with seachem copper and it's near .50 mg/l of copper. One question is I notice a bristleworm last night and it seems to be still alive in copper. Isn't copper treatment suppose to kill all inverts? I saw it floating around in the tank twisting and alive.

Thanks

Cupramine been active for a week now. In another two weeks i think the fishes are ready to be acclimated to the display tank. So far ammonia level is in check and both of them are eating like pigs. The majestic seems to have stop twitching after i dosed with prazipro and his one cloudy eye is no longer as cloudy. I will redose Prozipro again end of this week to get the 2nd dose of prazipro treatment in. so far according to the seachem test kit i am somewhere betweeen 0.3mg/l to 0.5mg/l so i think i am in therapeutic levels for copper. All the ich on the Sohal has disappeared and is looking great they are both eating like pigs of new life spectrum Thera-A pellets that is suppose to help improve immune systems and lots of nori strips.
