Cupramine and Vlamingi tang

As far as I know, you can treat any Tang w/Cupramine. It's mostly certain Dwarf Angels (and others) that can't take it.

it's fine to use cupramine on tangs. i would keep it at 0.35ppm for 3 weeks, instead of the 0.5ppm for 2 weeks as instructed on the bottle. tangs have important microfauna in their stomach which can get disrupted with full-strength copper, so i usually use a lower dosage for tangs (and angels).

are you treating for ich?

Yes, a bad infestation of ich. Basically I'm treating the display tank because I have to. I've never really dealt with copper before or bad infestatios of ich because I've always had a reef tank so i don't know Alot about copper.

Anyways, I have a fish only that I know has ich in it because fish have been dieing and I put a vlamingii tang in there. I had to move him out of a friends tank fast late last night because their air conditioner broke and wverythig was dieing in the tank and I had no where else to put it. I know, not a smart idea, but I'm hopping I can help the situation by getting the copper going I the tank.

If fish are dying fast, this could be Velvet (Oodinium), symptoms & treatment are similar. but, velvet is much deadlier, much faster. IMO,velvet is often misdiagnosed as ich.

the odds are high that oodinium is correct. With cryptocaryon irritans, the fish tend to hang around a lot longer before succumbing. If the fish are tending to look for "shade", that is more indicative of oodinium.

you guys are probably right, so can i save this fish by doseing the tank with cupramine? The tang isnt showing signs of anything yet.

I know its best not to treat in the display tank, but thats how I am going to do it. Many people have done this. Im just wondering if the cupramine can help to keep the vlamingi from getting the velvet/ich.

Cupramine treatment, done properly, will cure infestations of both parasites. You really can't tell if a particular fish "has it"; parasites often find the gills. But if either parasite is in the tank, all fish will ''get it" unless treated. Just not being able to see spots means nothing at this stage. BTW, if this is velvet, you have no time to lose; velvet can go from just being a little visible on one fish to killing the entire tank in a matter of days.

Cupramine won't cloud the water; but you're dosing a DT and The die-off of all the life in the LR & LS will sure cloud it though. Cupramine will also do some damage to the bio-filter, although not enough to be a problem in a QT. I'd keep an eye on ammonia. Also, i don't know what's in your DT; but the Cupramine will also kill any corals or other inverts. Its also next to impossible to accurately monitor & control the copper level in a DT. Too little copper is useless, too much kills fish. I hope this works for you.

How long does it take to see results from the cupramine? 2 days ago marks a week of me treating the tank with the cupramine and the vlamingi tang has ick spots all over his body andsome on his eyes and they are a little cloudy. He is still eating. Does the cupramine take a while? Should I add any ofther medications to the tank to help?

Thanks
