Cupramine dosing

I have a 20g tank as a QT/hospital tank. No sand or rock. Just some PVC in there. Filtration is via Aquaclear 70.

If I were to dose Cupramine, the directions say:

1) remove chemical filtration
2) add 1ml per 10.5 gallon water on day 1. Add anothter 1ml per 10.5 gallon 48 hours later
3) leave at this concentration for 2 weeks

Ok, my questions:

1) For my aquaclear, I only need to remove the carbon, correct? I can leave the foam and the other media (white colored) in ?

2) Since my only filtration is the Aquaclear 70, I don't want to use the same water for the entire 2 weeks. I'm sure it will get dirty. is it OK to do water changes? And if so, how would I redose (and how much) of the Cupramine?

Thanks

You are correct ... use of std foam filter media is OK - just remove the carbon.

As far as dose. If you have a copper test kit try and maintain the overall concentration at the rate recommended by Seachem - don't recall off the top of my head but its on there website and s/b in the instruction manual. If you don't have a test kit then you should try and keep the 2ml per 10.5 gallon concentration level (it if you take out 10.5 gallons then put 2 ml in the replacement water - adjust proportionally based on quantity).

Good idea to place a mark at the current water level of the QT .. that way you can distinguish "evaporation" from std water changes. Evaporation replacement should not have to have copper added.

Hope this helps.

If its just the foam or ceramic rings .. yeah .. those are just housing for bacteria. What seachem doesn't want is carbon or other chemical additives which may intefere with the copper.

Cool, thanks Kevin :)

I don't have a copper testing kit, and don't plan to purchase one since it won't be used very often. Adding cupramine in proportion to the amount of water I change out makes sense. Thanks!
