Cupramine or coppersafe

I was just curious to hear opinions of what the pros and cons are of each. It seems using cupramine is safer for the fish because less actual cu is used.
Thanks :beachbum:

I've used both, and I guess they work about the same (although I sorta seem to change my mind below ;)). If anything, Coppersafe may be a little easier to see using API copper test kit. It can be difficult figuring out what your Cu level is with Cupramine, using Seachem or Salifert copper test kit.

So I guess I'm not one of the "Cupramine is superior/safer to Coppersafe" advocates. If you happen to encounter a fish that's sensitive to copper, then it's likely you'll encounter problems trying to use either product on the fish IMO. In fact, I keep reading about all these people saying their fish look terrible in Cupramine, and I think to myself, "I don't remember my fish ever looking that way with Coppersafe." But maybe I'm just not remembering clearly. I rarely use copper now that I've found CP & TT. :D

I have used coppersafe years ago and more recently cupramine but like humble fish mentioned it can be difficult to accurately read the cupramine levels with the seachem and salifert tests. I have more recently started using chloroquine phosphate because I find it easier to use and the product works about 4xs quicker than copper or cupramine (10 day treatment) followed by 4 wks of observation

Cupramine or coppersafe

So has chloroquine phosphate replaced both cupramine and copper safe for ich tx ? How do you dose it and where do you buy it?

It's still considered a theoretical treatment by many of "the experts". And I don't know of any case studies on it regarding fish (it's main use is to treat malaria in humans).

Nevertheless; many of us have had success using it to treat parasitic infections in fish, and our anecdotal accounts can (mostly) be found here: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2136214
