Cure live rock in tank or bin?

I myself from now on will be curing my rock in a seperate bin, I cycled in my tank and found 7 unwanted crabs after they started to kill off my livestock.
I still have 2 crabs left, the one is the size of a half dollar and I have been fighting with him for 2 years.

I would cycle in a tub.

how do you know the cycle is done? And that nothing bad is in the tub? being a newbie, this is not going to be easy to tell I suspect.

you will need to test the water just like you would if you are curing in the tank.

being able to see the rock from more angles would make things easier. if tere is a critter you don't want then you can always remove the rock that is home.

to find hiding critters, you can submerse the rock in a really salty mix ( sg 1.040 ). most inverts. hiding will evacuate the rock and you see what you've got.
