I finally picked up a eco pico, and made a little diy equipment hider from acrylic and silicone, and painted it black with krylon fusion. It of course still stinks and is off gassing, and I was wondering if there is a good way to "really" know when its "ready" Once its done stinking, should I soak it in RO/DI (or even salt water) to let anything that might get leached out leach out? Would there be a recommended amount of time to do so, or something that I could look or test for to see if its "done"? If it were going in a larger tank I wouldn't be so concerned, but a 5 gallon pico doesn't have the volume to have many curves thrown at it.
