I got one as a hitch-hiker on a frag.......totally out of control now....must have 20+ in the tank. Any recommendations on best method of control?...and yes they are curlyques and not the aiptasia....

Joe's Juice or boiling water - good luck. I've tried bioth mean and have only had minimal success. I find if you catch them while they're small both suggestions are more effective.

what are curlyque anemones?
Bartholomea annulata, a member of the Aiptasiidae family. Some stores even sell them.

:D Thanks!
This is probably not the right place but I see you are a team member. I am new to this sight and just wanted to tell someone how great a job everyone here is doing. I went to a different sight first and, man what a mistake. I wish I would have found this sight years ago. Keep up the good work.

NOT A PEST!!!!!!!!

NOT A PEST!!!!!!!!

In my experience Bartholomea annulata are not pests.
I loved them after seeing them in the wild and was thrilled to find one on a rock when I set up my tank.
My pea sized hitch hiker Bartholomea annulata quickly grew 4 inch long tenticles and after nearly two years has not multiplied. It is now home to a pair of Alpheus armatus symbiotic pistol shrimp and a Periclimenes and sexy shrimp too.

Way cool creature. No problems with mine.

I recieved one from a member on RC. I got 5 at the start and they have grown to over 20. It seems the more I remove the more grow back lol I now just leave them as they are interesting.

I have fought Aiptasiidae for years. I gave up on all the tricks that never seemed to work for me, like injecting them with kalk, or boiling water, butterfly fish, shrimp, or duct tape. I never really tried duct tape but it fixes everything else. Now I just pull the rock out at first sight of the anemone and drill a hole in the rock where the thing was. I rinse the rock off and place it back in the tank. no more problem.
