I had a Fission in my 10 gallon nano and took it out after a few weeks. The collection cup is to small and half the time it doesn't work.

Take a look at the SR3 before making your decision. I am waiting for this skimmer to be released and set it up in my BC29. CPR says it will also work in small sump spaces. Probably work well in your sump.

I've never DIY'ed a skimmer, but own the Tunze Nano DOC. Good skimmer!

I am still unclear what you have to do to your biocube 29g, to install a Tunze protein skimmer.
