current orbit marine led 48" bar test

Well I purchased one of these for my 72 gallon bowfront and out of the gate the features are really nice but the intensity is something to be desired. I ordered the light from amazon for 160 bucks pretty cheap imo. Local fish store wanted 270. The spectrum is really nice and the preprogrammed modes were very cool. The reason I am posting this is because I inadvertently ordered two sets of these lights. The par sucks for a tank of my depth but I don't call it a loss because I plan on running a shallow frag tanks which these would be perfect for. Since the second set showed up today I stared at the box and contemplated sending it back but then the what if factor popped in my head and I decided to hook them both up better but still a little mild imo. To run a soft coral tank I think it's plenty more than that I doubt it. I am going to try and post some pics. Just thought I'd throw that out there in case anyone else was curious.

Is this the light with the remote & cloud / lightning effects? I am thinking about getting a 24" version for the cube setup I am working on. They are only good for soft corals I think but I am planning on adding a few kessils or something to make the lighting sufficient for hard corals as well.

I had the smaller version (24") for my Nuvo 16 and liked it a lot.

It will grow soft corals and some LPS just fine.

I use the 24in on my aquapod 24 and I love it. It grows softies really well and I've had great growth in my frogspawn and acans as well. The effects are really sweet too. However they said at macna that they have a more powerful model coming out before the new year so if you're really concerned about PAR output or use with sps you could always wait until they release the new model. Currents customer service is great too, two of my leds burned out and they sent me a new unit without hesitation.

I started out with one of these over my 90 and could grow any LPS /zoas/ softies. I even had some Monti cap halfway up my tank that really grew well, I inadvertently broke it one day, glued it back together and now you can't even tell. All from the Orbit LED's, and this was in a 24" deep tank. I have more recently added a 4 bulb T5 but the colors from the Orbit are beautiful just wish they were stronger.

Just starting my tank back up as you can tell. I actually like them. I was contemplating replacing my bulbs in hqi fixture and opted for these instead. They dropped the temp in my tank a solid 4 degrees. I was running 2 175w hqis in current fixture. Might still get new bulbs or sell the fixture all together. Not sure.
