Current USA Fission Nano-Skimmer- Are these any good?
Current USA Fission Nano-Skimmer. I saw them on sale at a few stores and I was wonderign if anybody knew anyhtign about them. Are they any good?

from what i have heard and the little experience that i have with one they run extremely well after about a week or to after the breakin period but the whole skimmer is dependent on the water lever staying at a constant hight for good performance

What do you mean by that? Do yo uhave to pull water from very close to the surface in order to get any good skim production?

There is a "sweet spot" on the body of the skimmer that the water level needs to stay at for the skimmer to function effectively. After 3 weeks of use, it is pulling out some good foam, however, I am starting to havce a bit of a micro-bubble "issue".

I'll give some detail: its not that the powerhead needs to be close to the surface, its that the skimmer itself is almost completely submerged. so it needs to be at a precise depth in order for the bubbles to foam up properly. This "sweet spot" seems to be halfway between the top of the water exhaust ports and the plug for the drain on the collection cup itself. That total distance is no more than 3/4 of an inch, so getting the skimmer placed correctly can be a bit tedious.

Here is mine and how it does. It is pulling Skimmate now. I like it.:)

I'm done with the Fission, it's just not worth the energy anymore, these are my opinions only....

To keep it at a specific water level in the POD is tough since the cover is so tightly fitted to the top of the tank when it's closed.

Way too many bubble are escaping into the tank

The air tube is constantly getting in the way.

I'm done, I'm going to look for an alternative solution or just do a 10% water change on a weekly basis...anyone have suggestions on skimming?

Theres a 28 page thread on nano-reef.com which I'm sure you would love to take a few hours to read. The concensus appears to be that this skimmer needs a lot of fine tuning to get it to work properly.

But, I'll let you read through all the bi%$#ing and moaning and come to your own conclusion! :D
