Current USA Satellite Opinions

Is the Current USA Satellite Dual (in this case I am referring to the 24" 2X65Watt) a good light? And is $75.00 a good price for one that is about 3-months old? No, I'm not selling one, but I am considering buying it and was wondering what others thought about this light, and was curious as to whether or not this was a good deal.

Thanks.

I have been very happy with the current setup that I have in three of my "nano" tanks. Two are built into the Aquapods and one is a retrofit. Based on the pricing at MarineDepot ($167) for a new light, I would say that $75 is a good deal.

I second that. $75 for a Current USA-made fixture is a good deal.

I paid $70 for my piece-of-crap fixture. :sad2:

They have similar for cheaper there, as well as some Nova individual T5 lights that you can link side by side with a clip that has legs to fit on your tank. Not the most efficient use of T5, but still would provide much more intense lighting than the PC fixture. For 75$ you could get 4 over your tank. Even if you just got two, it would still be much brighter than the PC fixture let alone half the price. Not sure if the link will come through cuz it's Ebay, but just search for the store called club reef if it doesnt.

IMHO, if you plan on staying in the hobby for some time and feel that your ambitions could possibly grow, you may want to consider in more intense lighting though. Better to buy bigger than buy twice ;)

Justin,

I must be missing something. They have 24" T5 that gives out only 9 watts each. With four bulbs that would only give you 36 watts. They don't have reflectors either. So how can 36 watts with no reflector be brighter than 130 watts with reflector. Unless you have actually done some light measurement - I don't believe your conclusion.

I am also trying what they have that is "similar for cheaper."

yeah, i really didn't see anything on that site either, as far as complete lighting systems that is. and what i did see was rather expensive.

Looking at watts and assuming watts equal intensity I wouldnt believe me either :D By design alone T5's are a more efficient light source. But in this case you may be right as I didnt see that they were only 9w NO, and assumed they were standard 24w HO, my bad:(

I also wouldnt believe that my one 24w bulb would be as bright my 175w MH bulb, Im sittin here looking at now Minh, and I still dont believe it! The necrosis to instant polyp extension says Im not the only one whos noticing it either though ;) Obviously my MH bulb is shifting, but it's still kicking out 175w, right?
