cutting a star

I have a chocolate chip star. I was told that I could cut one in half and it will grow to two stars is this true. I dont beleave in doing this but I am curious if this is true or not.

i believe that by cutting it in a slaint cut can make another newbie but i wouldnt harm it. let it be a starfish.

In theory it might be able to do this. But I wouldn't try it. For most captive stars, it may just mean a quick death. It is assuming that they are getting the proper nutrition, etc.
