Cutting toadstool leathers

I have some really large toadstool leathers and would like to clean out my tank and get some diversity in my tank. My question is, can i slice the leather at the base where it attaches to the rock to totally remove the leather without losing my rock, and if so, will it heal and reattach to a frag rock? I just don't want to kill it. I would like to swap it out for some different coral. Thanks.

Those do look large given the probable size of your yellow tang. I have cut them when they are this large before. It is important to make as clean a cut as possible. I used a stake knife. Keep the cut piece(s) in the same water if you can and make sure the flow is good. It is going to be messy so a water change the next day would be a good idea. Running carbon or changing your carbon would help too.

I would try to chisel off some of the rock with the leather in order to prevent it from growing back. Unless that is what you want? It would also be easier on the Leather. Good luck!
