HI there , I have alot of Cuttlefish bones, and I was wondering if I can use them as a calcium carbonate source for my tank, what do you think ? I've heard that its full of calcium carbonate, I am new to this calcium reactor thing so would anyone help me please ? thanks in advance ...

It may be composed of calcium carbonate, but I do not know what else it is composed of. It may have extra levels of certain elements--which may be good or bad, depending upon what it is. I do know, for instance, that cuttlebones have relatively higher levels of strontium. On a more negative note, it may also contain higher phosphate concentrations, as well. I wouldn't really consider them a viable source for most purposes (due to above reasons), though, especially since you would have to have a calcium reactor to use them. Otherwise, CaCO3 is not a good supplement to the reef aquarium.
